It wasn’t a big challenge, but when Glatfelter Insurance Group set out to donate 300 boxes of stuffing to LifePath Christian Ministries in 2017, the company unleashed the friendly competition.
And weeks later, when LifePath came to pick up those donations, the company’s employees exceeded that goal by more than 100 boxes.
“People really stepped up,” says Suzanne McConkey, Glatfelter’s vice president of human resources. “We kept a total running count going in our bistro. It was just easy for people to throw a couple extra boxes of stuffing in their cart at the store.”
‘Need in our community’
LifePath, the York County Food Bank, and the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry are partnering in 2018 for their “York Giving: Thanksgiving Edition” in hopes to distribute 2,000 Thanksgiving meal boxes to families in need across the county.
“I think there’s a lot of need in our community,” Suzanne says. “We go about our daily lives, and we forget there are people right next door that are less fortunate. They don’t have the means to go out and buy the foods that we take for granted.”
Glatfelter will be giving again this year, Suzanne says.
“It’s a very easy way to give back,” Suzanne says. “You’re not just writing a check; you’re sharing what you have in your own household with others that may not have it. There are simple ways that we could help others who have some basic needs.”
How your company can help
Like last year, LifePath is asking organizations, from businesses like Glatfelter to local church groups, to aid in contributing to the cause.
The following items are needed:
- Canned fruit
- Boxed stuffing
- Jars of gravy
- Boxed desserts
LifePath is also asking for financial contributions or gift cards from local grocery stores to purchase the nearly 500 turkeys needed for the project.
