LifePath’s ministry as York’s rescue mission since 1962 couldn’t happen without prayers and partnership like yours—and Karen Rollins-Fitch, who shares her heart for this ministry in her own words . . .
“I have known about LifePath, since moving to York about 13 years ago, as a source of refuge for community members who need a little extra care. I find the need of those experiencing housing instability as something we all should support. This is why, when the opportunity came for my company to support LifePath’s inspiring Roses in Winter Celebration, I felt like it was a perfect way to make an impact on someone else.
“LifePath’s uniqueness comes from the caring, compassionate staff who touch lives that are often unseen by most. The circumstances leading someone to not have housing are often difficult, and they need a safe space to regroup and develop a plan to gain their footing again. This is what LifePath offers.
“I know of a young man in his early twenties who didn’t have family in the area, and he eventually found himself without housing. He came to LifePath, and with the support of the staff, he was able to find a place to live. It was a very dark time for him, and it really placed a strain on his mental well-being. But he was able to overcome the obstacles that were in place.
“I think there are times when people make decisions that make sense at the moment but could have detrimental outcomes. So if you have a safe space to go to when you’ve made a misstep in life, you have the opportunity to come out on a better side. There are many of us struggling day to day to make life work, and it’s a blessing when we’re offered a space for help.
“It is extremely important to have mental and physical health services available for people experiencing homelessness. Any time you have instability in life, it is a difficult process. And it’s hard to cope with all the other issues that need to be addressed. Mental health services are key, but if you’re not taking care of your physical health, it is much harder to get yourself back on track.
“I feel LifePath’s Roses in Winter is an excellent way to bring the community together, sharing a meal and meaningful fellowship in a comforting space. I hope this event again provides support and understanding for those experiencing homelessness—and those supporting them.”
