Mark 10:13-16 resonates strongly with Carol:
“People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” (NIV)
So, 10 years ago, Carol started a weekly Bible study for the children staying at LifePath Christian Ministries. Michele (Carol’s daughter and a business professor at York College of Pennsylvania) started helping Carol with the Bible study about five years ago when Michele returned to York from the Midwest. Bailey (Carol’s granddaughter and Michele’s niece) is a student at York Tech studying Early Childhood Development and began helping with the children’s Bible study two years ago, around the time Michele joined LifePath’s Board of Directors.
LifePath’s focus on introducing guests to Christ is a defining feature. We know that we are ‘new creations’ in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and that He gives us hope, which our guests so desperately need.
We also appreciate how LifePath doesn’t just shelter and feed guests, but also helps connect them to resources that can help. Homelessness is a complex issue with many causes, and LifePath supports guests while addressing the causes active in their lives.
The employees and volunteers at LifePath provide services with compassion and dignity. And it is wonderful to see people leave the shelter better than they came in, with new skills, improved circumstances, and an introduction to Jesus.
Carol’s favorite Bible verses come from Psalm 23, while Michele’s current one is, ‘In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world’ (John 16:33 NIV). And Bailey’s is John 14:8, which means that if God is all you have, you have all you need!
