A Fresh Start for Michael and His Son

Coming to York was Michael’s best hope to stay strong in his recovery, be united with his son, and be closer to the specialized care his son’s health requires. He knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but he trusted in God to put him on the right path . . . and that path led straight to LifePath!

“I got custody of my son. He was in foster care. He has special needs, and there were no services for him [where I lived before],” Michael says, recounting the long years it took to be united with his son.

After arriving in York, Michael was directed to LifePath where a parent and child can stay together, unlike many shelters. “I was so grateful to know that I’ve got a safe place for me and my child.”

Sitting down with LifePath staff, Michael asked for help for his son, his number one priority. The compassion and resourcefulness of the team amazed him and brought huge relief. “I felt overwhelming anxiety because I didn’t know what was next,” he says, shaking his head at the pressure he was under.

In such a caring environment, Michael shared that he was in recovery and also needed support in that area. Immediately, he was introduced to the many services and programs available here at LifePath to help people overcome addiction and live a sober life.

Soon, everything was falling into place—better than Michael had even dared to dream!

Through our Rent 2 Success program, Michael was soon ready to take the next steps to independent living. “I learned how to be a successful renter, and I got a lot of opportunities because I came through this program. Now, I’ve got a two-bedroom apartment. It’s really nice.”

Share help and hope at Thanksgiving with neighbors like Michael

With help from staff, Michael’s son is settling into a nearby residential facility. “His insurance came through so he can get the long-term treatment he needs. I’m just praying everything is successful with that aspect of it because this is all for him.”

Michael will never forget the help and hope he and his son received at LifePath. He is deeply thankful for friends who choose to support the Mission—and deeply thankful to God.

“The people at LifePath were extremely helpful. I can’t say it any better than that,” Michael says. “I’m thankful to have a home for my son. And I want to thank LifePath for helping me stay successful in my recovery. They really can put you on a better path.”

On behalf of people in our community who are in urgent need of meals, help, and hope, thank you for standing with LifePath now to provide the tools and encouragement that can launch a new beginning in life!

Michael welcomes the abundant future God has in store for him. “I’m going to do my part because I’m responsible for the effort; God is responsible for the outcome.”
