Carole* packed up what she could and ran, with two children in tow and a baby on the way. But she had nowhere to go . . .
“I couldn’t really do much because I was carrying a baby. Plus, I had kids, and so it was very, very hard,” Carole says, remembering the day the abuse in her home escalated, making her afraid for her life.
The next three years were a nightmare as Carole and her little ones moved from place to place in York County, trying to get settled into a new job, a new home, and a new life. “Just trying to get on my feet was very hard, and I was petrified of running into him again.”
Carole made one tough decision after another. “I gave up my car—because if I have to choose between a car versus rent, I’d rather have rent,” she says.
But when her last dollars were gone, the little family was evicted. Facing homelessness, she made the call to LifePath and waited to be turned down. But that’s not what happened . . .
LifePath welcomed this frightened mother and children into our Women and Children’s Shelter. “Being here gave us the resources we needed so I could figure out where we were going next because going back is not an option,” she says.
“LifePath is awesome—nothing but love. The staff is unbelievable. They really care about your future. The cook is really good, and the food is awesome.”
Finally, warm, safe, and with food for the children, Carole regained her courage and confidence. And the Christ-centered environment of LifePath made her and her traumatized children feel at home and loved.
Carole can look ahead now, instead of constantly looking over her shoulder. She’s excited about getting a fresh start and is deeply thankful to the caring friends who support LifePath’s Women and Children’s Shelter.
“I’m glad I’m on the journey I’m on now. I feel like I almost lost my life, and I want to say thank you. Thank you so much. LifePath definitely helps people like me.”
