“I’ve never been homeless in my life. It was awful . . .”

“I’ve never been homeless in my life. It was awful . . .”

Randy cared for his parents through their final, tough years, and he was with his mother to the end of her life. But after being deceived by his siblings, Randy found himself isolated in his grief . . . and homeless.

Randy has always put family first. As his parents aged, he became their caregiver, moving in to be there around the clock. After his father passed away, Randy’s mother began to show signs of dementia, so he did everything he could over the next few years to keep her safe and comfortable. But then, his siblings turned up and insisted that his parents’ house had to be sold immediately.

“After my mom went to the hospital, my sisters said, ‘We have to sell the house,’ but they never did. They just said that to get me out. So I had no place to go . . .”

Randy was unprepared. He had no job lined up, no money saved—his sole focus had been his parents for years. Plunged into a deep depression, Randy could find no hope anywhere . . .

“In my 63 years, I’d never been homeless in my life. It was awful. It was sad. It was lonely,” he says, remembering the sinking feeling that he was all alone in the world.

Dark thoughts took over until Randy felt life was no longer worth living. “I was suicidal,” he says. But then, Randy remembered his love for his grown children and pulled into a fire department for the intervention that would save his life.

LifePath—A Place for New Life

Crisis averted, Randy needed a place to stay and help getting back on his feet. Caring professionals recommended LifePath Christian Ministries.

“I wasn’t familiar with LifePath, and I was nervous, scared actually,” Randy says. “But they gave me a bed, food, activities to participate in, and I am very appreciative of all LifePath did and all the help they gave me.”

Today, Randy has completed programs designed to help him regain independence and renew his relationship with God. He has an apartment of his own and a bright outlook for the future—no more dark thoughts or despair. And he is deeply thankful to everyone who chooses to support the lifesaving, life-changing work of LifePath.

“I would like to say thank you for caring for people who are homeless,” he says. “Please continue to donate—because you helped me, and there are plenty of other people who need help. If it weren’t for people like you, I can’t imagine where I’d be.”
