Volunteers from TCC give back at LifePath

Six TCC managers spent a day assisting at the LifePath Christian Ministries Men’s Shelter.

Giving back is built into the DNA at TCC, a nationwide Verizon Authorized Retailer. As a Culture of Good, Inc., company, TCC encourages its employees to give of themselves to the communities TCC serves.

When TCC Regional Director Sean Morgan learned about LifePath Christian Ministries, he knew that volunteering at the agency would be a good fit for his company. “Until you get involved, you don’t know what kind of difference you can make,” he says.

One act of kindness makes a difference
In March, Sean led a team of six regional managers to serve at the LifePath Men’s Shelter. “We went in and asked them to put us to work,” Sean says.

The shelter has an upstairs area that needed organization, so Sean and the team spent a day cleaning, opening up the space, and arranging items. They organized canned goods, then helped provide meals to the guests coming in for lunch.

At the end of the day, LifePath staff informed Sean that the work his team completed in a few hours would have taken them a week.

“The experience definitely opened my eyes up,” Sean says. “It really gets you to take a step back, re-evaluate your own life and how appreciative you should be.”

He’s found that the hardest part of volunteering is taking the first step. People often are uncomfortable coming into a new situation, such as at a homeless shelter.

“Once people learn and get to experience it through their own eyes,” Sean says, “you get instant buy-in. You’ve got to dive in with both feet.”

Besides providing volunteers, TCC awarded grants to LifePath through the TCC Gives program. Sean looks forward to continuing TCC’s relationship with LifePath and hopes to return soon to volunteer again.

“To truly make a difference, you don’t need much,” he says. “It only takes one person, one act, sometimes just one act of kindness to truly make a difference in someone’s life.

Everyone has different strengths and passions. Just act. Do. Try. Care.”
